Beneficiaries of the rapid advancements in ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) are those communities which communicate and access over internet in their languages. Other communities lag behind. Digital divide is sprawling. Latin alphabet users, 39% of the global population, consume 72% of world writing paper, and enjoy 84% of access to the Internet. Hanzi users in China, Japan and Korea, are 22% of global population; they consume 25% of paper and have 13% of internet access. Arabic scripts users : 9% of global population, consume 5% of paper and have 1.2% of internet access. Civil script users : 5% of global population, consume 1.1% of paper and have 1.6% of internet access. Brahmi-origin (including Indic) scripts users in southeast Asia occupy 22% of global population, consume 2.2% of paper and have just 0.3% of internet access.more.....
